Sustainably style your home with second hand & vintage pieces

Nordic retreat and Retro Fusion were Ideal Home’s top two interior trends for 2019 - great news for the planet as both are easy to achieve in a sustainable way.

At best furnishing your home is a creative, evolving project that brings joy to your everyday. With a growing second-hand market, furnishing your home sustainably is becoming not only a no-brainer for your pocket and planet, but also for cultivating an on-trend look. Here’s our favourite ideas to give you some inspiration:

Mid-century Modern

You’ll find mid-century modern pieces adorning the likes of Saatchi art fairs, and the homes of the euro-chic and scandi-files everywhere.

Classic quintessential country

Thanks to our ancestor’s taste for high-quality, handmade furniture made to last, there is an abundance of one-of-a-kind antiques in the UK. Not only are they aesthetic and durable, they also come with their very own history.

Upcycling furniture produces a circular economy immediately, and is particularly effective if you’re feeling creative and want to create something unique.

Natural Materials

Look out for second hand and vintage pieces that are made from natural materials such as linen, leather, wool, rattan and wood. These materials go hand in hand and work well together to create a homely environment, as well as being super sustainable as they will biodegrade at the end of their life-cycle.
